About this tool
This is a free HackerRank ATS resume checker built on the hiring agent HackerRank released publicly on GitHub. It uses an AI model to evaluate your resume against the same criteria HackerRank uses internally. For engineers, it scores GitHub activity, open source contributions, personal projects, and production experience. For designers, it evaluates your Dribbble portfolio, design tool proficiency, and creative project history. You get a score out of 100, plus bonus points and detailed evidence for each category — all without signing up.
The two modes evaluate completely different signals. Software Engineering mode scores your resume across four weighted categories: open source contributions (35 pts), self-directed projects (30 pts), production experience at companies (25 pts), and technical skills breadth (10 pts). Bonus points are awarded for things like GSoC participation or founding a startup.
Design mode evaluates your Dribbble portfolio presence and shot quality, design tools listed (Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch, etc.), real-world client or product work, and the depth of your design thinking process.
Most ATS checkers match your resume against a job description using keyword overlap. This tool is fundamentally different: it evaluates your absolute profile by looking at what you've actually built and shipped, not just which keywords you've used.

Improving your score — Software Engineers
The ATS looks for verifiable open source activity linked from your GitHub profile. Contribute to established repositories, get pull requests merged into projects with real users, and participate in programs like Google Summer of Code (GSoC) or GirlScript Summer of Code.
Projects score higher when they demonstrate real product thinking: full-stack apps with authentication, payment integration, real users, or meaningful traffic. The ATS rewards projects that solve actual problems and are publicly available on GitHub with a live demo or deployment link.
Improving your score — Designers
Make sure your profile is public, active, and linked clearly on your resume. Post a consistent body of work (aim for at least 20–30 high-quality shots) and include case study breakdowns where possible.
Design mode is specifically built around Dribbble as the primary portfolio signal, so running it without a Dribbble profile will result in a significantly lower score. Create and populate a profile before submitting.
